Bill PoulsonManaging Director
Bill has 35 years of engineering, operations and general management experience in the nuclear industry including executive site management throughout the U.S. Department of Energy complex. Bill led key programs at the US Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site (SRS), including the management and operations (M&O) organization. Managing a $1B SRS M&O budget and 7,500 employees, he provided executive direction for site operations focusing on expenditure and staffing oversight, goal setting, performance monitoring, and special initiative leadership. While Vice President of Liquid Waste Operations, he accelerated tank waste removal using a new modular construction method; restarted, retrofitted, and constructed key facilities; and integrated organizations into the operation in order to achieve site missions. Bill also managed the High Level Waste and Spent Nuclear Fuel Divisions at the site, delivering $25M in validated cost reductions to the Department of Energy. As General Manager of the $1.39B West Valley Demonstration Project (WVDP), he started up and operated the first and only process in the US to vitrify waste from reprocessing of commercial spent nuclear fuel. He received a DOE award for demonstrating “exemplary standards in safe operation” of the vitrification system.
Bill took a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at West Virginia University before joining Westinghouse in 1972. In 1982 he received an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. Bill and his wife Linda have two children. They will be relocating to Cumbria.
