After three years of studying Chemical Engineering at the University of Sheffield, I chose to undertake a 12 month Industrial Placement at Sellafield to gain vital work experience. Although it was daunting to move to a new area and work on such a huge and unique site, I settled in really quickly as everyone is very friendly. There is a dedicated group of graduates who organise social events so it’s similar to my university life.
My day to day work involves looking at strategies to deal with the waste from the decommissioning projects on site and, at the moment, I am working on a project looking into the effluent streams from these plants, to find environmental improvements. I find this area really interesting and exciting as there are new and different challenges to apply my chemical engineering knowledge.
