Types of roles
Environmental
Are you looking for a more significant environmental role? As the largest and most complex nuclear site in the UK, Sellafield offers a level of variety and challenge that can't be found elsewhere.
The roles involve many different activities ranging from environmental assessments, advising operations, identifying and implementing environmental improvements, and compliance management, with the aim of delivering continual improvement in environmental performance. Environmental Management is an integral part of delivering Selllafield Ltd business plan and meeting the requirements of both regulator's and other stakeholders's.
Strong influencing skills are essential. A key part of the role will be to drive your recommendations through the committee process and ensure your identified improvements are implemented. It's also essential that you have either a relevant degree or significant relevant experience, along with a good understanding of Environmental Regulations.
Engineering
New plants continue to be constructed, commissioned and operated, while significant work is ongoing to decommission historic plants and manage the nuclear legacy. Gaining experience in a range of plants and at all stages of their life-cycles, you'll keep abreast of new developments and play an important role in ensuring the efficient and safe delivery of multi-million pound projects.
Looking at more specific roles, as a Process Engineer you may develop a process to treat radioactive waste retrieved from a legacy building. As a Mechanical Engineer you might design a remotely operated tool to undertake a complex task within a radioactive environment. In a Civil/Structural Engineer role you could be involved in any aspect of new building analysis and design (including earthquake resistance), civil infrastructure design/maintenance or the resolution of complex decommissioning and demolition challenges. Or, as a Control, Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer you could end up designing a complex programmable control system to ensure radioactive waste is contained and controlled.
Project Management
If you're looking for a career in Project Management there's no better or more challenging organisation to join. After all we carry out a huge variety of projects, ranging from supporting operations to waste management and nuclear decommissioning.
Projects vary from the small and simple to the very complex, with high degrees of risk and technical uncertainty. Whatever their size and complexity, one thing remains the same - each and every one must be delivered safely whilst meeting our targets in terms of time, budget and quality.
Metallurgy and Materials
Individuals in Materials Science:
The chances are that you don't think of some of the world's greatest scientific and engineering challenges, one of the best benefits packages around or careers with exceptional prospects. But then, as one of the global nuclear industry’s most respected names, confounding peoples reactions is something we're getting used to. As part of our expansion programme we're looking for both newly qualified and experienced Metallurgy and Materials professionals. If you're already experience you'll love the chance to be involved in the whole life cycle for the plant - everything from materials selection at the design stage through to developing innovative waste processes for decommissioning and dismantling.
