Visitors Centre wins an award
Sellafield Visitors Centre has been presented with a Positive Action Award 2004 at a ceremony held in Warrington, Cheshire.
The awards are presented to venues that seek to provide as full access as possible for people with disabilities. The Centre won the award in the visitor attraction category for actively designing the building and exhibition with disabled access in mind and because of staff attitudes and friendliness. Warrington Disability Forum, who nominated Sellafield Visitors Centre following a visit, said that the Centre was an excellent example of how companies and attractions had anticipated the requirements of new legislation for the provision of access to visitors with disabilities.
The awards ceremony was held at the new Halliwell Jones Stadium, home of Warrington Rugby League Club. Like Sellafield Visitors Centre, the impressive stadium was also designed to allow for disabled access.
