Recognition for British Nuclear Group's support of science and engineering

British Nuclear Group\'s education and community relations officer at Sellafield, Pauline Farrell, attended a reception in the House of Lords in recognition of the company\'s support for the Science and Engineering Ambassadors Scheme (SEAS).

Launched in 2002 by Lord Sainsbury, the scheme aims to promote science, technology, engineering and maths by providing enthusiastic, vetted volunteers to work with young people and teachers in schools.

The Science and Engineering Ambassadors can get involved in a whole range of activities and events organised and managed by the local SETPOINT aimed at enthusing school-age children in science, technology, engineering and maths.

A number of SEAS and SETPOINT activities have already been held at Sellafield this year, including a mini engineering day, a Girls into Engineering event and robotics taster day.

Pauline will join one hundred other ambassadors at the event hosted by Lord Sainsbury. Commenting on the event, she said: “Without the support and advice from Tony and his team, British Nuclear Group would not be able to work with as many local students. The reception will be a great opportunity to network with other ambassadors and supporting businesses.”

Tony Gill, Manager, SETPOINT Cumbria, nominated Pauline to attend the event. He said: “This is an important event to celebrate the success of the SEAS scheme in the UK. It will give delegates an opportunity to meet other people who have provided the same level of support for their local SETPOINTS and SETNET.”
