Sellafield Clean-up team has ?cracked it? again
A Sellafield safety initiative, ‘Ponds cracked it scheme’, has donated £500 to a further two West Cumbria charities.
The scheme, developed by workers within the Legacy Ponds and Silos area, allows workers to nominate local charities to receive donations. Each four week period completed without an OSHA injury, dangerous occurrence or environmental breach enables the team to nominate a chosen charity to receive a £500 donation; to date the team has donated money to six charities.
Legacy Ponds Safety advisor, Paul Dixon, said: “This scheme is designed to help put something back into the local community as well as promoting safety. It is rewarding to know that our continued efforts to maintain high levels of safety also help benefit worthwhile causes.”
The latest charities selected to receive donations are ‘The Footsteps Child Development Centre’ at the West Cumberland Hospital and ‘Macmillan Cancer Relief’.
The ‘Footsteps Child Development Centre’ provides support to children with special needs as well as giving help to the whole family. Currently 22 children attend the centre, however, nursery nurse Marian Grey hopes this donation will enable the centre to reach more people.
“Speaking on behalf of the parents, children and staff, I would like to thank British Nuclear Group, Sellafield. This money will be going towards purchasing more equipment for the Centre, which will enable us to continue providing support to those families that need our help.”
Macmillan Cancer Relief provides support for cancer sufferers and their families, and the donation will go towards supporting the vital work that the charity carries out in the local community.
