British Nuclear Group achieves mark of excellence
British Nuclear Group has been awarded the prestigious Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) certification standard, accepted as a mark of excellence for purchasing policies and procedures.
British Nuclear Group is one of the few companies in the UK to be recognised by the CIPS in this way and is the first company from within the nuclear industry to achieve the standard, signifying ‘best in class’ for approaches to purchasing and supply management.
Examples of excellence and innovation were highlighted in a number of areas, including: code of conduct, strategic planning, strategic sourcing, tender management, environmental impact and ethics.
Mike Mari, Head of Certification for the CIPS, said: “British Nuclear Group has demonstrated real commitment to efficiency and overall good practice in its purchasing and supply procedures. I was particularly impressed with the way the company has harnessed the latest innovations in web technology by implementing a series of e-trading and information sharing systems.”
During the last financial year (04/05) British Nuclear Group spent more than £1bn across the company, with its supply chain, including Sellafield and the ‘Magnox’ reactor sites. With seventy pence out of every one pound spent on subcontract work, it is seen as essential to demonstrate examples of best practice to our stakeholders in this area.
John Adams, Head of Procurement for British Nuclear Group, added: “We are absolutely delighted to have achieved the certification. Purchasing strategy and overall management of the supply chain is an integral part of operations carried out at Sellafield and the reactor sites. The CIPS certification has clearly demonstrated that our policies and procedures are comparable with some of Europe’s leading commercial organisations.”
