Memorial Walk raises money for the British Heart Foundation

BRITISH Nuclear Group, Sellafield’s Clean Up legacy silos team and Fluor have raised over £2,000 for the British Heart Foundation.

The fund raising was inspired by a former legacy silos worker worker, Derek Dale who recently passed away.

In his memory, over 30 people including workers from within Clean Up took part in a Memorial Walk in May from the Whitehaven Beacon to Parton. The team raised £1,086 which Flour agreed to match. Among those who took part in the Walk was superintendent project manager for Clean Up, Dave Foucault.

He said: “Fluor is very honoured to have helped such a worthwhile cause as the British Heart Foundation. I have been through the ordeal of having heart problems myself, so this charity means a lot to me on a personal level. I hope the money will go a long way towards helping the families and those affected by such illnesses.”

Audrey Johnson, local chairman for the British Heart Foundation has thanked both parties and all involved for the money raised. Speaking at the cheque presentation ceremony held on Tuesday 13 June at Galemire Court, Westlakes, she said: “The Foundation is very grateful to all who have taken part in the Memorial Walk in Derek’s memory.

“We would like to thank both British Nuclear Group and Fluor for their support. The funds will be going directly towards research and supplying equipment as well as staff to care for people who have heart diseases.”
