Sellafield workers complete engineers training
Ten graduates from the Sellafield plant engineers training scheme were congratulated by Managing Director Barry Snelson for the high standards they have shown in reaching their ambitions.
Initiated five years ago to develop and promote potential expertise within the company, the scheme is approved by the Institute of Incorporated Engineers (IIE). Participants who take
part develop behavioural and technical competencies alongside their academic studies.
The site workers from across the business received special thanks from Barry following the completion of their university courses which they undertook over four years while still working on site.
Dave Bulloch, Senior Scheme Coordinator, was pleased to present the graduates to Barry, and was encouraged by the scheme which provided funding for five additional people each year.
He said: “For our business, skilled people are the most valuable and important asset. Successful employers seek ways to attract and retain competent and committed people.
“This scheme has been developed to give craft employees the opportunity to achieve their ambitions.”
Barry Snelson addressed the group, and listened to their new qualifications and how hard it had been for many of them over the last four years having to make travel and time commitments to their courses.
Barry had encouraging words for those who had taken up the opportunity of further education.
“It is a feature of the developing world that its citizens have a voracious appetite for learning. If we want our developed world to stay developed we need to follow their example. I am delighted
you have embraced the concept of continuous learning so well. “A degree is not just a piece of paper. It demonstrates a level of intellectual understanding to back up your existing practical knowhow.”
