Celebrating quality
Sellafield Ltd employees, Joanne Hughes and Steve Smith, joined over 100 quality professionals from across the UK at the Chartered Quality Institute’s (CQI) annual John Loxham seminar and quality awards held on World Quality Day, 8 November, at Murrayfield, Edinburgh.
Joanne and Steve attended the event to pick up their CQI diplomas.
Commenting on the occasion, Joanne said: “The awards were attended by quality professionals from all over the country, and featured a presentation from Stan Marshall, Director of Operational Excellence at the Edrington Group, best known for its Scotch whiskey brands such as Famous Grouse.
“Steve and I were two of eight students receiving our diploma from the Chief Executive of the CQI. We studied for our diplomas at Blackburn College which we attended one evening a week for the past three years to complete the diploma. It was a massive commitment over a long period but was worth it in the end.”
Elsewhere across Sellafield Ltd, World Quality Day was celebrated with displays and presentations at Sellafield and Risley, raising the importance of quality in our business.
A competition inviting employees to help enhance quality in the workplace resulted in six winning suggestions which included ideas to help reduce bureaucracy and produce more efficient systems. The successful suggestions are being progressed through to hopeful implementation.
Chris Parry, Head of Quality Strategy and Standards, said: “A commitment to quality is important as we strive to perpetually improve the business and survive in an increasingly competitive marketplace. We must all seek to understand the importance of quality with respect to both product and delivery for our customers, by taking an innovative approach.”
