Sellafield Ltd scoops top prizes at CIPS awards

Commercial and Contract Management Director, Steve Morgan

SELLAFIELD Ltd is celebrating after winning two prestigious Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) Awards.

Commercial and Contract Management Director, Steve Morgan, scooped the top prize in the Purchasing and Supply Management Professional of the Year category, beating off competition from individuals from the London Development Agency and Procurement for Housing (CEL).

Steve said: “I am thrilled to have won this award. Although it was presented to me as an individual, it is a group prize that couldn’t have been achieved without the input of the whole team.

“This accolade puts Sellafield Ltd on the map; we’ve come a long way and are now at the forefront of the nuclear industry, achieving respect at the level we deserve.”

The Company Ombudsman role also won the award for Best Contribution to Corporate Responsibility, beating off competition from the likes of Marks and Spencer and Royal Mail.

Dave Henderson holds the role of Sellafield’s Supply Chain Ombudsman. He acts as the first point of contact for the supply chain and develops improvements to Sellafield Ltd’s supplier communication and engagement, through holding events such as the Supplier Forums, and through the supplier area of the Sellafield Ltd web site.

The ombudsman provides a confidential and unbiased route for the supply chain to raise issues about procurement at Sellafield, and represents the company as the interface between various business support and development agencies such as West Lakes Renaissance, West Cumbria development Agency, Cumbria Inward Investment, North West Regional Development Agency, The Welding Institute and other parties such as Copeland and Allerdale Borough Councils, and Cumbria County Council.

Dave said " I am very pleased that the role of Supply Chain Ombudsman has received national recognition, and am proud that I currently represent the company in this role. Sellafield is recognised as a leader in the nuclear industry, and awards such as this reinforce our position. With the new PBO soon to be in charge, I am looking forward to working with them to build on what we have achieved so far."

The awards, which are designed to celebrate and reward excellence in the field of purchasing and supply management, were presented to the successful finalists at an awards dinner on Thursday 4 September at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Sellafield Ltd’s commercial manager, Linda McLean, was also nominated for Young Purchasing and Supply Management Professional of the Year award, but unfortunately missed out on the top prize.
