James Cracknell helps reward talent at Sellafield
OLYMPIC rower James Cracknell, OBE is no stranger to achievement and was therefore the ideal choice to present prizes to the winners of Sellafield Ltd’s first Celebration of Achievements Awards.
Over 150 guests were invited to the celebration held in Whitehaven Civic Hall on Friday 12 September to honour the achievements of those employees and apprentices who have demonstrated a commitment to learning, development and improvement.
Guests on the night included local MP Jamie Reed, members of the Sellafield Ltd Executive, Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and representatives from local education bodies.
The awards presentation was hosted by Sellafield Ltd’s Talent and Development manager, Helen Bennett, and co-hosted by guest speaker James Cracknell, OBE.
James said: “Sellafield is a place that everybody has heard of and knows about, but having been here tonight I’ve found out first hand about all the cutting edge work that actually goes on here, and the array of different people that the company actually employs.”
On receiving his award, winner of the Environmental, Health, Safety and Quality category, James Biles said: “It feels absolutely great to have won. The successful integration of quality across Magnox East River has been a team effort - from operators through to managers. I wouldn't have won this award without the help of everyone who has been involved.
“It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening; the food was great and the guest speaker was great. Thanks go to everyone who helped organize the event.”
Concluding the evening, head of Education, Training and Development, Lesley Bowen said: “The
Celebration of Achievement evening was a great success; those individuals who were selected for awards were all well deserved.
“I would like to say a special thanks to James Cracknell who provided an excellent motivational speech, focusing on his achievement of winning his first Olympic Gold at Sydney. Likewise I would also like to say a big thank you to the internal team who organised the event and deserve some significant recognition themselves.”
