Hail Fellow

Joshua Rice, who works within the recycling operations safety support team in Thorp, has been recognised for his significant contributions in the field of safety by being awarded Chartered Fellowship of IOSH.

Joshua who has worked as a safety advisor since joining the company in 2001, was recently informed that he had been successful in applying to the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) for Chartered Fellow status. Fellowship of the Institution is only awarded to chartered members who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the health and safety profession.

Of the thirty three thousand members of IOSH across the country only five hundred and thirty seven have been granted chartered fellow status.

Joshua was presented with his certificate at the prestigious IOSH Annual Dinner by Nattasha Freeman, newly elected as President of IOSH.

Sellafield EHS&Q Director, Fran Williams presented Joshua with his certificate on site and congratulated him on his success. Speaking with Joshua she said: “You should be very proud of your achievement. I believe it is very important for our employees to be involved in bodies like this; we have a lot to offer, but also a lot to gain. Our new executive encourages both the learning from others and the networking opportunities that memberships give.

Commenting on the award Joshua said: “chartered fellow status is only granted by the institution to members who go the extra mile. I undertake numerous non work related activities for the institution, such as acting as a mentor to other IOSH members who are working towards becoming Chartered members, and carrying out the duties for the North Cumbria District of IOSH. It shows that there is recognition and rewards for those that contribute to the activities of the Institution and I encourage other IOSH members to get activity involved. We currently have almost 200 members in the North Cumbria District and I would encourage anyone who is interested to get in touch with me for further information.”
