SPRS team reach two years without a lost time accident
Congratulations go to the Sellafield Product Residues Store (SPRS) project team who recently recorded two years without a lost time accident.
This exceptional achievement is even more impressive given that it took place in an environment that involved the building of a complex civil structure. This included the requirement for a multitude of heavy lifts involving large modules and complex mechanical handling equipment. In addition over 7000 cables have had to be installed and the associated equipment energised and taken into the commissioning phase.
As a result of this excellent ongoing safety record, a growing number of local good causes and charities have been awarded in the region of £50,000 through the Target Zero Award scheme which is run jointly by Sellafield Ltd and its contractors.
Tom Gilroy, senior project manager for SPRS, stated: “This is an achievement of which everyone associated with the project is extremely proud. When we embarked on this journey there was some scepticism that this level of safety performance was possible and I readily admit I had my own doubts.
“However the Sellafield Ltd team and our contractors have proven that it can be done and I have nothing but admiration and respect for all those involved."
