Two take prize as Sellafield Ltd's Graduate of the Year
Sellafield Ltd’s Graduate of the Year award for 2010 has been awarded jointly to Vicky Harold and Jason Farrell, two outstanding graduates from the 2008 intake, both of whom have now successfully completed their first two years on the company’s graduate training scheme.
Vicky, who works in the Project Management capability at Risley, has received recognition for demonstrating a quiet confidence and enthusiasm for all the opportunities available to her through the graduate training scheme. She has proved to be a very capable Secretary to the Sellafield Project Review Board and instrumental in the early delivery of site preparation projects.
When asked about her success Vicky responded: “It’s a fantastic feeling and I am very flattered to receive this award considering the high caliber of graduates. I actually found out that I had received the award when I was 5,200m above sea level in Nepal in the Himalaya. I celebrated with a rum and coke at altitude.”
A member of the Project Managers Site Steering Group, she is also on the North-West Branch committee for the Association of Project Management and has recently embarked upon an MSc in Project Management, having been awarded funding from The National Skills Academy for Nuclear (NSAN). Vicky has also delivered a work package to the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) for their Foundation Degree module in 'Professional Practice'.
Vicky added; “I really enjoy working in the Project Management directorate and am grateful for the opportunities that I have been given. I have been learning every day and hope to continue to do so throughout my career. I work with fantastic people, who have offered support and advice over the last two years and it’s those people I have really been learning from”.
Jason, who works in Sellafield Ltd’s MOX Technical department, also expressed his surprise at receiving the award and said “I was delighted to hear that I, along with Vicky, had received this award. I thoroughly enjoyed my two years on the graduate scheme, which involved lots of fascinating work in Sellafield Mox Plant, as well as opportunities to go on secondment to other areas of the business”.
Outside of work, Jason also supports his local Institute of Physics branch and he has presented nationally at other IoP conferences throughout the country. He ably represents SL at Universities, delivering technical talks and supporting the ongoing recruitment process and has received praise from the SL technical community for his organisation of a Sellafield Technical Conference for graduates, alongside some of his peers.
