Change in Personnel - EHS&Q Director

Sellafield Ltd has announced that Ms Kliss McNeel is to replace Fran Williams as Environment, Health, Safety & Quality (EHS&Q) Director of Sellafield Ltd.

Fran is returning to the United States, having committed over 2 years to Sellafield Ltd and before that, 2 years on the NMP bid team. During this time, Fran has overseen safety performance on the site through an unprecedented change programme, through which we have achieved many successes including some of the best safety statistics the site has seen in many years. For example, we have achieved an increasing number of long periods of time without a lost time accident, including one stretch of more than 6 million man hours.

It is accepted best practice for organisations such as NMP to change the top management team on the sites they manage on a regular basis. This brings a new fresh approach to a changing environment and evolving challenges. This was always the intention, as laid out in our bid to NDA

While we will be sorry to see Fran leave us, we are delighted to name Kliss McNeel as the new EHS&Q Director. Kliss’ previous role was Vice President of ESH&QA for the Idaho Clean Up Project, a URS joint project.

Bill Poulson, Managing Director of Sellafield Ltd commented “Fran has done a fantastic job as the EHS&Q Director, and I, and the Sellafield and NMP Boards, have been very proud of her achievements over the last two years. She has been a key member of our team and I will be very sorry to see her leave us. However, we promised in our bid to NDA that we would utilise our full, formidable strength of talent, skills and experience to ensure that the lead team on the site was continually replenished to bring in new approaches, specifically aligned to moving challenges. That was a key feature of our offer.

I am therefore delighted to be announcing Kliss as our new EHS&Q Director. Through her career in the US, Kliss has earned an excellent reputation for improving operational safety cultures and she has an impressive track record of building strong links and relationships with stakeholders and regulators. She will be a great asset to the team and she is very enthusiastic about helping us to deliver our long term vision for Sellafield and West Cumbria, which must be based on world class safety performance.

Kliss will arrive at Sellafield in early January 2011 and, following a structured hand over programme, will take over as Director in February.
