Environment Agency Caution over Condensate Leak
We accept the seriousness of this event and have willingly accepted the Environment Agency’s Formal Caution.
The leak was reported in January 2009 and we have made many improvements to our management systems since then to reduce the risk of re-occurrence. The Environment Agency has been monitoring our improvements and is happy with the progress being made.
The condensate was of very low radioactivity, was contained within the site boundary and resulted in no impact to employees, the environment or the local community.
Sellafield Ltd reported the event at the time to stakeholders and via the Sellafield Newsletter. We have worked with the appropriate regulators throughout to investigate and put in place a thorough improvement plan.
