Sellafield Ltd's Ian shows his support for Japan
Moved by the recent events in Japan, Sellafield Ltd’s Ian Gordon, head of Japanese Fuels Programme in the Sellafield Mox Plant, will be taking part in the Great Langdale Half Marathon in June to raise money to help.
Ian was mid-air returning from a visit with Japanese customers when the tragic recent events in Japan unfolded. Ian’s been working closely, alongside INS, with Japanese customers for the last 3 years.
He said: “Everyone's seen the dreadful news from Japan. The massive scale of the devastation is hard to take in. Hundreds of thousands of people have had everything torn from them in seconds – family, friends, homes and every item they owned.
“I thought I should do something practical to help. So, I’m going to try and raise some money for the Red Cross appeal for survivors by running a half marathon on Saturday 18 June”.
Speaking about the challenge ahead, Ian said: “This is a big step for me - the furthest I've ever run is about 8 miles. The race is 13 miles and the route is very hilly. I sometimes jog about 4 miles, once or twice a week. So, I'm going to need to lay off the pies and do a lot of training for the next 3 months”.
If you would like to support Ian you can do so through the Virgin Money Giving website (http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/iangordon).
