Norwegian Minister visit to Sellafield
Sellafield site is hosting a visit from Minister of the Environment and International Development Erik Solheim today, 7 April.
Norway’s focus on Sellafield’s actual and perceived impact on the environment has established the country as a key stakeholder of Sellafield Ltd, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and UK Government.
There has been ongoing dialogue with Norwegian stakeholders over the past ten years discussing the safety and strategy for the site and the environmental impact of decommissioning and on-going clean-up work.
Mr Solheim will meet senior representatives from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and Sellafield Ltd before visiting the High Level Waste plant on site.
Stakeholder Relations Director Iain Irving said: “We are delighted to welcome Mr Solheim to our site. It presents us with an excellent opportunity to exchange information and highlight how the company safely manages Sellafield.
“It’s important for us to understand fully the views and concerns of our stakeholders. We take the concerns of the Norwegians seriously and during the visit we hope to be able to provide information that will help allay their fears.
“Operations at Sellafield are subject to full safety and environmental regulation which ensure the delivery and maintenance of high levels of nuclear safety and environmental performance in the UK. At Sellafield, we are fully committed to nuclear safety and the protection of the environment.”
