Project Management Career Path accreditation
Sellafield Ltd has become the first of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority’s seven Site Licence Companies to be granted corporate accreditation from the prestigious Association for Project Management (APM).
With over 18,500 individual and 500 corporate members, APM is the largest independent professional body of its kind in Europe and aims to develop and promote project management across all sectors of industry.
APM corporate accreditation was awarded to Sellafield Ltd’s Project Management Career Path following an assessment of Sellafield Ltd’s professional project management development scheme. The application gained the highest assessment marks of the 13 project management career development programmes previously accredited under the APM corporate accreditation scheme.
Bill Condon, Project Management Director said: “When we started the Project Management Forum in 2009, one of our goals was to make Sellafield Ltd project managers the best in the UK. They now have the best training tool in the UK to support this objective.”
Liz Wilson, APM’s head of Professional Standards and Knowledge said: “We are delighted that Sellafield Ltd has achieved APM accreditation for its Project Management Career Path programme, and that its commitment to the professional development of project management was evaluated highly against the APM’s five dimensions of professionalism. We look forward to continuing to work with Sellafield Ltd to maintain and enhance this position.”
David Hart, APM Board Director and Trustee, commented: “Sellafield Ltd represents an excellent example to other organisations in the nuclear industry and supply chain of the standards required for efficient project delivery.”
David Hughes, development manager within the project management capability team added: “The project management staff development programme at Sellafield Ltd is called the Project Management Career Path and is part of the company’s overall professional development programme led by the various Heads of Profession.
“Sellafield Ltd also provides support to the project management community by paying for a project management professional body as well as a technical professional membership. Any project managers who are interested in finding out what support the company can offer should give me a call.”
Other developments within the Project Management Community have involved setting-up internally 11 Specific Interest Groups (SIGs) to match APM SIG groupings and have assigned a chairman and deputy within each group.
The award to Sellafield Ltd of APM’s corporate accreditation represents a clear demonstration to our customers, stakeholders, suppliers and employees that Sellafield Ltd is committed to the highest standards of project management professionalism.
