Guard force contract awarded
Sellafield Ltd can confirm that it has awarded a contract to Mitie Security for the services of a commercial Guard Force for deployment on the Sellafield site.
Mitie Security brings a wealth of experience in security manning and support services.
This complements the Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC), who will continue to maintain security on the Sellafield site.
The Guard Force’s range of duties will include searching and controlling access into and out of the Sellafield site. The introduction of the commercial guard force will bring a considerable number of employment opportunities in the local area.
These changes have been subject to regulatory approval and are in line with the site’s security plan. The addition of a Guard Force further strengthens and complements existing security arrangements.
Mobilisation of the Guard Force will start in November 2011, with full transition scheduled for early 2012.
Sellafield Ltd reviews its security arrangements as part of continuous improvement to ensure that they are robust and effective, now and in the future.
