The E Factor
Sellafield Ltd’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) ambassadors were worthy winners of the Skills for Enterprise competition held at Energus on Friday 9 December 2011.
E Factor, sponsored by Britain’s Energy Coast and hosted by their Chief Executive Mr Tom Gilroy, challenged teams to attempt a series of highly interactive challenges and gathering points along the way.
Two teams of Sellafield Ltd ambassadors took part in the event competing against GEN 11 apprentices, University of Cumbria students together with pupils from St Josephs Workington, Whitehaven School and Solway Community School.
Kim Ingles, TV presenter, reporter and journalist compared the event which was opened with an address from MP Tony Cunningham who was very clear in his message that West Cumbria’s success will be determined by the young.
Students also took part in a question time session where questions and concerns were addressed by a panel comprising Tom Gilroy BEC, Pete Woolaghan REACT Foundation, and Chris Nattress Lakes College.
Tension then mounted as Owain Oxenham, Resource Marketing announced the winners as: The Sellafield Ltd ambassadors, followed by St Joesph’s Workington and Solway Community School coming 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Pauline Farrell, Education Manager said: “I was very proud of both the Sellafield teams who were extremely focussed on trying to complete as many challenges as possible.
“One of our teams came third while the other team came a very respectable fourth and were ‘gracious’ in defeat. It was great for the ambassadors to be able to take part in a fun event rather than focussing on helping students”
