Conference Success for Sellafield Ltd Safety Advisor

Izzy Styles

Sellafield Ltd’s safety advisor Izzy Styles has been selected to present a paper at the prestigious ‘13th International Congress of the International Radiation Protection Association’ that takes place in May this year.

The congress is being held in Glasgow and it is the first time for many years that it has been held in the UK. It is the biggest radiation protection conference of its kind and it is expected to attract around 2,500 delegates.

Izzy submitted an abstract to the UK Young Persons Speaker competition and was chosen from the many entries as the winner. Her presentation focuses on skin dose assessments following incidents in which workers receive either clothing or skin contamination. It describes the methodology from the initial event through to the assessment of the final dose received.

Speaking about the success, Nigel Parkes, functions safety manager said: “This is a real achievement for Izzy and a great opportunity. As a result of her work we now have a new skin dose assessment software package available to use on site and operators trained in how to use it, this is a great step forward.”

Kliss McNeel, EHS&Q Director added: “It’s fantastic to see our people going the extra mile in their specialist field. Izzy should be very proud of herself, we will look forward to hearing how she got on.”
