Our sites
Sellafield Ltd is safely delivering decommissioning, reprocessing, nuclear waste management and fuel manufacturing activities across sites at Sellafield in Cumbria and Capenhurst in Cheshire.
Our focus is the safe and efficient acceleration of high hazard risk reduction.
Associated with this, we have identified five high hazard programmes as our top priority, dealing with more than 90% of the nuclear hazard potential on the Sellafield site.
Included in this programme of work are:
- Pile Fuel storage pond facility
- First generation Magnox storage pond facility
- Magnox fuel cladding silo facility
- Pile fuel cladding silo facility
- Highly Active Liquor (HAL) reduction
We have already made a number of achievements in the area of high hazard risk reduction including the safe retrieval of 95% of the radioactive sludge stored in two historic waste tanks at Sellafield as well as the start of redundant fuel skip exports and bay desludging in one of our historic fuel storage ponds.
