Security in the Supply Chain
Introduction
Any person employed by or contracted to Sellafield Ltd is bound by the regulations that govern the UK civil nuclear industry – The Nuclear Industries Security Regulations 2003. These regulations have been written to underpin the Anti-Terrorism, Crime & Security Act 2001.
Security is a priority issue for Sellafield Ltd, and as such the security regulations must be strictly adhered to – this includes security of information in the Supply Chain. In particular, attention is drawn to Section 79 of the above act, entitled: ‘Prohibition of Disclosures Relating to Nuclear Security’. Please have a look at this under the Useful Links section.
The security regulator for the UK civil nuclear industry is the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) – they are part of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and sit between the UK Government and the Site Licence Company. They will ensure that Sellafield Ltd is enforcing the regulations correctly.
The Contract Security team for Sellafield Ltd are responsible for ensuring that the regulatory requirements flow down through the supply chain, and as such will be implementing certain processes and procedures that existing suppliers may not be familiar with.
Documents produced during contracts with Sellafield Ltd may involve a mixture of Government information and Sellafield Ltd’s Commercial information, and may be produced and stored in a number of different ways. The team will be here to help both new and existing suppliers in understanding the need for security of this information in the supply chain, and to help advise and guide them through the requirements and how they can best be met.
There will be more information and guidance coming soon, but for now, please see the Useful Links section for links to the regulations. Keep coming back to look at our page for regular updates.
